OAK BANK SCHOOL CELEBRATES THE STUDENTS HARD WORK
Leighton Buzzard-based, Oak Bank School is celebrating the achievements of five students who consistently excelled during the school’s vocational study programmes in Construction and Interior Design.
The awards were created to reward outstanding pupils who successfully completed their portfolios of evidence for the City & Guilds/ NPTC qualification in Skills for Working Life.
Fifteen year old, Ashley Wallis won the Best Overall Vocational Student Award sponsored by Aggregate Industries, owners of the Leighton Buzzard based Garside Sands and the Charcon and Bradstone block factory in Grovebury Road. Ashley also won the Best Student in Construction Award, sponsored by building materials supplier, Jewson of Leighton Buzzard.
Ashley, who is currently enjoying a work placement in construction, completed the course demonstrating excellent skills in bricklaying and block paving.
The Best Safe Practitioner Award was won by Daniel Wadsworth. The award, also sponsored by Aggregates Industries, places high importance on Health and Safety working practices in these vocational areas.
Liz Brown, marketing manager at Garside Sands, said: “We are delighted to be supporting learning and teaching in this way at such a key stage in the lives of the students.
“These courses are an ideal way to give the students the opportunity to gain hands-on and practical knowledge in key skill areas whilst helping to instill and understand the vital areas of the construction and building industry such as the importance of health and safety in the workplace. They really simulate the world at work, and we look forward to working closely with the pupils in the future. Our congratulations go out to all the pupils at Oak Bank School at KS4 for raising to the challenge."
Other winners included, Josh Keable who won the Best Student in Interior Design Award sponsored by local building supplier, Gibbs & Dandy Plc. While the most improved student award in construction was won by Nathan Nelson and the most improved interior design award by Ashley Robinson.
Liz Brown (Garside Sands), Jamie Lingard (Jewson), Amanda Evans (Gibbs & Dandy Plc) and Dee Thomas (Connexions) representing the local employers and industries attended a prize giving ceremony, held on Friday 20th July.
Subhash Rawal, Head of Vocational Studies at Oak Bank school said, "This year we have awarded more prizes than ever to students who have done exceptionally well during their studies. So many of our pupils excel in their chosen vocational studies, that it is important that we recognize their talents and commitment in this way.
"I would also like to thank all our Partners for their support, and their generous donations of trophies and prizes for the key category of awards that have been sponsored."
